WORKSHOP - FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Do I need to bring anything with me to the workshop?

No, your tools will be supplied. For dip pen and ink workshops, I suggest not wearing any precious items of clothing as you may get ink on them.

What is the pace of the workshop?

During the beginning of the workshop, I try to have everyone doing the same thing but I encourage everyone to go at their own pace, particularly towards the end as I start to see each attendee developing their own style.

The workshop I want to attend is sold out. Is there a waiting list?

Please drop me an email and I will add you to the waiting list.

I'm left-handed, can I attend one of your workshops?

Yes, you can - I have successfully taught many 'lefties'. The pen holder we use is ambidextrous so it's not a problem, however if you are an over-writer, you may have some difficulties. Please contact me prior to the workshop for more info.

Can children attend the workshop?

Yes, secondary aged children are welcome to attend. All I ask is that I have a contact phone number in case of emergencies. I am DBS checked.

Will I receive enough one-to-one attention during the workshop?

Yes! Depending on the venue, the maximum per workshop is 8 or 10 attendees. I make sure to spend equal time with each attendee.

I'm unable to attend the workshop I have booked onto. Can I transfer my space to my friend?

Yes, you can transfer your space to a friend but please let me know prior to the workshop.

I'm unable to attend the workshop I have booked onto. Can I transfer my space to another date?

Unfortunately tickets are non-transferable to another date.

I'm unable to attend the workshop I have booked onto. Can I get a refund?

Unfortunately tickets are non-refundable.

Is the venue accessible to wheelchairs?

Please send me an email and I will let you know if the venue is accessible as it differs between venues.

How long are the workshops?

Usually between 3 and 4 hours, but please see the individual workshop listing, which will state the timing of the specific workshop.

When I purchase my ticket through Eventbrite, what will I receive?

You will be sent an email confirmation of your booking from Eventbrite. No other e-tickets or posted tickets will be sent.

Do I need experience?

My beginners workshops are for (in the words of Bowie) absolute beginners. My improvers workshops are suitable for those that have attended a beginners workshop in the past.

After attending a workshop, how long until I am good at calligraphy?

Like with anything, practice makes perfect. I suggest attending an improvers workshop and practising for at least 2 hours a week after the beginners workshop to keep up the skills you would have learned. Calligraphy is a skill that takes time but it is equally important to spend time to develop your own style too!

Will there be refreshments available at the workshop?
Yes - unlimited tea, coffee and biscuits are provided. Sometimes cake too, depending on which venue!
